Instrumentation Engineer

Unique Skills:
The Test Lab is looking for an Instrumentation Engineer with experience operating Data Acquisition Systems and/or Load Control Systems as they relate to the static and dynamic testing of aircraft.
Successful applicant would provide operational support of our Structural Test Lab including participating in the setup and operation of load control systems and computer based data acquisition systems to support the conduct of static and fatigue test programs. Experience with HBM data acquisition systems or MOOG Load Control Systems is a plus. Experience troubleshooting typical measurement system setup and hardware problems is also desired. Experience with Strain Gage applications is desired.
Education and Experience Requirements:

Acoustic Research Engineer

DUTIES:

  • This position is for a senior electrical engineer to serve as an Electrical Design Engineer within the Integration Environment Systems team of Government Systems - Airborne Systems engineering. The Tooling Engineer will provide strong leadership and technical skills to direct support Special Tooling (ST) requirements of the organization. Produce high level tool designs as it applies to both materials and techniques for tooling design/fabrication. Develops and implements optimal, cost-effective manufacturing processes and methods in accordance with product specification and quality standards. Recommends and implements improvements to production processes, methods and controls including environmental.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure all new Special Tooling (ST) released to production meets design intent. Tasks will be completed by designing and/or reviewing the developmental designs of ST from initial project work through release for production use.
  • Ensure existing ST are in the best production condition by performing technical tool observations (TTO) and implementing Lean initiatives to reduce tool processing steps and unacceptable function.
  • Accountable for tooling development, tool try-out verification, tool fabrication quotes, first article development, tool configuration changes that involve cost estimation, tool functional verification, tool usage instructions, and implementation into production.
  • Must possess strong knowledge of CAD/CAMM for tool design development, tool design review/acceptance.
  • Ability and experience with optical comparator, programming CMM (coordinate measuring machine).
  • Provide leadership using root cause analysis methods and corrective action implementation to ensure tools with nonconforming conditions are neutralized.
  • Performs research, design, and development of manufacturing processes including production flow, assembly methods, production equipment and environmental impact.
  • Continuously improve tooling performance/usage via work instructions and tooling rework orders supported by statistical process control (SPC).
  • Pursue personal development of skills and knowledge necessary for the effective performance of these and other duties, tasks and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Works directly with engineers to produce drawings from sketches, existing drawings, and electronic images where applicable.
  • Performs product/process analysis of cost reduction, quality improvement, and improved efficiency.




Education
The position requires a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline is required. Combination education and relevant experience may be considered in lieu of degree. Master's degree in engineering, engineering management, industrial management or business is preferred.

Experience
  • A minimum of eight years of experience with a minimum of four years of production tool support experience.
  • Composite bond jig, milling fixture and assembly jig experience preferred.
  • Tool fab liaison with outside tool suppliers and tool buy off experience required.
  • Requires a thorough knowledge of GD&T and keen understanding of engineering language used in Special Tool change orders, tool configuration management.
  • Proficient communication skills, both written (M/S software) and clear verbalization is required.
  • Kaizen and Lean Manufacturing techniques.
  • Technical skills in manufacturing processes and methods including flow, layout, assembly, and production equipment.
  • Quality orientation and attention to details.
