PPG Introduces Lightweight Battery-powered Aerospace Sealant Dispensing Tool

PPG (NYSE:PPG) introduces a new, battery-powered, aerospace-sealant dispensing tool that is easier to use than traditional manual and pneumatic applicators and dispenses at faster rates. The SEMCO® model 1250 sealant tool weighs less than three pounds and is ergonomically designed with cordless and hoseless operation, compared with a standard Semco 250A dispensing tool that weighs about two pounds and is typically tethered to a 10-foot hose.

According to Dillon Desai, PPG global market development manager for aerospace sealants and packaging, the Semco model 1250 is designed for application of sealants, adhesives, potting compounds and other materials packaged in Semco disposable cartridges or SEMKIT® packages that are used for multicomponent materials.

“The new Semco model 1250 dispensing tool does not have to be connected to a power source, making operation less cumbersome,” Desai says. “It operates on a 10.8-volt, rechargeable, lithium-ion battery and can dispense up to 60 cartridges before the charge is exhausted. With its ergonomic design, it is easy to balance at the center, and a recoil effect reduces sealant drool after dispensing for cleaner operation with less waste.”

The battery takes about 60 minutes to fully recharge, he says.

Paris Air Show visitors can see a Semco model 1250 battery-operated dispensing tool at the PPG display in Hall 2b at Stand C105. The International Paris Air Show is June 19-25 at Le Bourget.
