Sherwin-Williams Introduces New Chrome Hazard Free, Skydrol® Resistant Aerospace Coatings Epoxy Primer

Sherwin-Williams has introduced a new aerospace primer, Chrome Hazard Free Epoxy Flexible Primer (CM0483790), which is a high performance, two-component, corrosion inhibitive epoxy primer. It provides outstanding flexibility and provides Skydrol® resistance in addition to excellent adhesion to treated substrates. CM0483790 was designed to meet the stringent performance properties and chemical resistance specification requirements of leading OEM manufacturers, Bombardier and Embraer.

This is one the most flexible of chrome hazard free primers Sherwin-Williams has introduced. This is a key product attribute because with typical aircraft bending, flexing, enlarging and contracting during flight, the flexibility of aircraft coatings is imperative. Recently qualified to AMS 3095 certification, the new chrome hazard free CM0483790 primer meets the U.S. VOC regulations that require a 2.9 lb/gal (350 g/L) VOC primer in aircraft maintenance painting settings.

Another key benefit of the new product is that it has Skydrol resistance on its own without requiring a topcoat. This can be beneficial if the aircraft is primed at one location and flown elsewhere for final topcoat. It also provides increased chemical resistance in case the topcoat is scratched, dented or damaged.

In addition, this new primer designed to work with all Sherwin-Williams aerospace topcoats, so aircraft painters can get superior topcoat gloss hold out and increased productivity while delivering a very high square-foot of coverage per gallon.
