The Chinook H47 Systems Safety Engineering team is seeking a candidate to perform systems safety engineering and analyses. The selected candidate will have an exciting opportunity to work with an experienced team of system safety professionals and grow their knowledge of military rotorcraft systems. As a system safety engineer the candidate will experience the big picture when it comes to defense operations and witness the complexities of the defense industry life-cycle from conceptual development through design, as well as test and into sustainment. The successful candidate will apply an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to plan, design, develop and verify a lifecycle balanced system of systems and system solutions. He/She will also evaluate customer/operational needs to define system performance requirements, integrate technical parameters and assure compatibility of all physical, functional and program interfaces. The candidate will be expected to perform perform system safety analyses across multiple platform configurations and system designs to ensure airworthiness and mission success. They will also support development program and fleet issue management through execution of system safety risk assessments. The successful candidate will act as a lead and program focal for the safety team, as well as build relationships with interfacing product teams to identify, analyze, and influence the design to control hardware and software hazards. The candidate is also expected to mentor and provide guidance regarding the system safety process to less experienced peers within system safety and interfacing organizations and teams. They will also prepare system safety documentation and technical reports based on their technical evaluation, as well as validate and verify system safety requirements. The selected candidate will be expected to deliver oral and written system safety and risk presentations to peers, program management, senior leadership, customer, and regulatory agencies. The role will also find the candidate leading the development and continuous improvement of system safety processes, methods and tools. Must demonstrate the ability to communicate well and work within a team environment with first time quality. Proficiency in default Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is required. Basic (Required) Expectations:

  • This position requires the ability to obtain a US Security Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship.
  • Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word 
  • Experience working across organizations and cross-functional groups to ensure project coordination, implementation and completion
  • Engineering background with experience in systems, mechanical, electrical, or software engineering
Desired Expectations:
  • 3 years experience with System Safety Engineering
  • Experience developing and executing Systems Safety programs based on Mil-Std-882
  • Direct experience with risk assessment methodologies and tools
Typical Education/Experience:Degree and typical experience in engineering classification: Bachelors and 9 or more years experience, Masters with 7 or more years experience or PhD with 4 or more years experience. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
