Donaldson Announces European STC for Inlet Barrier Filter for AgustaWestland A119/AW119 Ke Helicopters

Donaldson Aerospace & Defense, a division of Donaldson Company, Inc., has received a Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) approval from the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) for an Inlet Barrier Filter (IBF) system for the AgustaWestland A119/AW119 Ke helicopters.

A welcome equipment addition to these versatile aircraft, the IBF helps prevent engine damage in all environments including maritime and land-based operations alike. European A119/AW119 Ke operators now have the opportunity to realize the proven operating cost reductions and increased operational capabilities an IBF offers.

Donaldson Inlet Barrier Filter systems are already in use by operators worldwide in corporate, rescue, firefighting and utility missions.  IBFs prevent particulates and contaminants from damaging the turbine, including very small diameter sand/ramp grit and salt spray.  Strong engine performance is maintained with IBF installation.

The A119/AW119 Ke IBF system features flat filter assemblies with an integral bypass design creating a sealed intake plenum.  The emergency bypass capability is an important IBF feature and is not included in traditional sand filters and particle separators.  A simple compact cockpit switch allows for indication/activation of the bypass system, and an integral Filter Maintenance Aid also allows for on-condition inspections, pre- and post-flight, to assist in mission planning and visual inspection of filter condition.
