New Grommet Edging PMA Will Help Aerospace OEMs Save 49% on Total Install Costs

Device Technologies, Inc. (DTi), designer and manufacturer of specialty wire protection, cable management and sealing solutions, announces it has applied for FAA Design Approval for a PMA (Parts Manufacturer Approval) for Spring-Fast® Wire Protection Grommets. Once approved, aerospace engineers and techs can take advantage of the superior M22529 grommet technology and replace old legacy MS21266 glued nylon grommets. This PMA will apply to three variants of Spring-Fast: M22529/1, M22529/2, and M22529/3.

DTi, in concert with the Boston ACO (Aircraft Certification Office), has identified the make and model of a wide range of TC (type certified) aircraft where Spring-Fast M22529 grommets have been proposed as a suitable replacement and preferred alternate for the MS21266 series nylon grommets. DTi has submitted both the tests for compliance as well as a request for formal design approval, which certifies that a replacement component complies with the airworthiness standards of eligible products. Approval is expected shortly.

For end users, Spring-Fast M22529 provides best-in-class cable and wire (EWIS) protection while also offering significant install savings as well as reduction in FO/FOD footprint compared to the MS21266. It also completely eliminates the use of glues, solvents and VOCs, such as MEK and trichloroethylene, making the workplace safer and requiring no PPE.

“Any OEM that is using glued-in nylon grommets to prevent wire chafe can realize install savings of at least 49% by switching to Spring-Fast," says Nick Petri, president of DTi.
