Airbus Helicopters’ Racer demonstrator, developed in the frame of the European Research Clean Sky 2 project, performs its first flight in Marignane. The aircraft flew for about 30 minutes, allowing the flight-test team to check the overall behavior of the aircraft. This important milestone launches the flight campaign, which will take two years and will aim to progressively open the aircraft’s flight envelope and demonstrate its high-speed capabilities.

Georgina Hunter-Jones Receives HAI’s Salute to Excellence Communications Award

Helicopter Association International (HAI) announces Helicopter Life editor, Georgina Hunter-Jones, as the recipient of the Salute to Excellence Communications Award. The award, sponsored by Lightspeed Aviation, recognizes an individual for creative distinction in disseminating information about the helicopter industry. It will be presented March 7, 2022, at HAI HELI-EXPO 2022 in Dallas, TX.

Professional Aviation Associates, a Greenwich AeroGroup company, completes its audit to continue operating as an authorized fabricator of Stratoflex aircraft hose assemblies. The audit was conducted virtually and completed with no findings. Twenty-three documents passed with supporting data, including the hose shop quality management system.

Aviation Specialties Unlimited (ASU) in Boise, ID, announces the company has received the Seven Seals Awards from the Employer Support of Guard and Reserve (ESGR) for the company’s efforts to support ASU employees in the National Guard and Reserves. ASU director of Aviation Services, Chris Schoonover, also received the ESGR Patriot Award. The Patriot Award reflects the efforts made to support citizen warriors through a wide-range of measures, including flexible schedules, time off prior to and after deployment, caring for families, and granting leaves of absence if needed.

S.A.F.E. Delivers Maintenance Stands to Airbus Helicopters Maintenance Training Center

S.A.F.E. Structure Designs (www.SAFEstructureDesigns.com) announces the delivery of custom ergonomic maintenance stands to the Airbus Helicopters Maintenance Training Center in Grand Prairie, TX, where technicians from around the world train in the support of Airbus Helicopters. The aircraft that have been outfitted at the training center are the EC120, EC130 and H145.

GPMS Receives Approval to Install Foresight MX on Mi-8/17/171 Series Helicopters

GPMS International, Inc., announces it has received ODA approval to install Foresight MX on the Mi- family of helicopters. Foresight MX is GPMS’s next-generation health-and-usage monitoring system (HUMS), and the Mi- series kit is adapted to Mi-8, Mi-17, and Mi-171 aircraft and variants. The company is already accepting orders for the comprehensive helicopter performance-monitoring system on the Mi- platform.

Lufthansa Technik AERO Alzey: 10 Years of Support for the CF34-10E Engine

In December of this year, Lufthansa Technik AERO Alzey (LTAA) marks 10 years of experience with the maintenance, repair and overhaul of the CF 34-10E engine — a type used in the Embraer 190 and 195 regional jets and the Embraer Lineage 1000 business jet. LTAA, a wholly owned subsidiary of Lufthansa Technik, added the CF34-1 and CF34-3 to its portfolio as early as 1991, and they were joined by the CF34-8 in 2002. Since then, LTAA's employees have supported over 550 CF34-10E shop visits and more than 270 on-site visits for customers.

RBI Hawker Australia Appointed Rotor-Blade Repair Service Center for Leonardo Helicopters

RBI Hawker Australia announces that it has been appointed a rotor-blade repair service center for Leonardo Helicopters. The Brisbane-based facility has been operating in Australia since receiving its Part 145 maintenance organization approval from the Australian Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) in June 2021. It was appointed a customer service facility for Bell in July 2021.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has issued two airworthiness directives (ADs), one for helicopters and one for airplanes, containing measures that will avoid potential effects on aviation safety equipment that could occur as a result of the Jan. 5, 2022, deployment of 5G technologies in the C-band. These ADs will require flight manual limitations that prohibit certain operations requiring radio (radar) altimeter data at locations that will be specified in future Notices to Air Missions (NOTAMs).
