Helicopter Specialties Enters 25th Year of Service with New Projects and Certifications

Helicopter Specialties, Inc. (HSI) enters its 25th year in business on a strong note, with a new certification and a steady flow of helicopters arriving at the Southern Wisconsin Regional Airport from air medical organizations, as well as government, corporate, utility, private and international segments.

The HSI team was recently awarded a Leonardo Helicopter Service Center certificate. Helicopter Specialties' work includes custom interiors, field support, heavy maintenance, avionics, custom fabrication, engineering, structural repairs, and painting for helicopters of all types. It also provides avionic services for fixed-wing aircraft.

Recent projects include a Hummingbird Helicopter completion for a private customer who requested it match their current Bell 407 helicopter, as well as an Airbus H125/AS350 B3e completion for Bering Air of Nome, AK. In the medical field, HSI provided two more custom Isolette® incubators for Mayo Clinic and Children’s Wisconsin air-medical aircraft.

Helicopter Specialties is an FAA-certified repair station with 24 helicopter models on its FAA Repair Station certificate, including Airbus, Bell, Enstrom, Robinson, Leonardo, and MD Helicopters. It also is authorized to service Safran, Honeywell/Lycoming, Pratt and Whitney, and Rolls Royce engines. It is an authorized customer service facility for Airbus, Bell, Enstrom, Robinson Helicopters, and Leonardo and has many avionics dealerships as well.

Jim Freeman started HSI in 1999 in a small hangar at Southern Wisconsin Regional Airport in Janesville, WI. Over the years the company has grown its facilities to include two modern hangars, as well as built long-term relationships in the helicopter industry that the company has continued to maintain over the last 25 years.

HSI has been recognized by the Wisconsin Aviation Trades Association as “Aviation Business of the Year.” It has received multiple FAA Diamond and Gold Awards for aviation technician training and has been granted the Greater Beloit Chamber of Commerce Economic Development EDDY Award.

HSI invites attendees of the 2024 Air Medical Transport Conference (AMTC) to stop by Booth #927 to help the company celebrate its 25th anniversary.
