Helicopter Association International (HAI) announces that the neonatal/pediatric transport team at Children’s Health of Dallas, TX, is the 2022 recipient of the Salute to Excellence Golden Hour Award. The award recognizes the efforts of an individual, group or organization that, through a particular activity or contributions over time, has advanced the use of helicopters or UAS aircraft in the vital mission of air medical transport.

The award, presented by Rolls-Royce, recognizes an individual for long-standing excellence in rotorcraft maintenance, maintenance instruction or supervision, or a single significant contribution to rotorcraft maintenance.

Helicopter Association International (HAI) announces U.S. Coast Guard Avionics Electrical Technician Second Class Andrew Champagne as the first recipient of the Salute to Excellence Matthew S. Zuccaro Land & LIVE Award. The award recognizes aeronautical decision-making, crew resource management, and coordinated actions by flight crews that result in the decision to terminate a flight before an accident could occur. The award will be presented March 7, 2022, at HAI HELI-EXPO 2022 in Dallas, TX.

Helicopter Association International (HAI) announces Helicopter Life editor, Georgina Hunter-Jones, as the recipient of the Salute to Excellence Communications Award. The award, sponsored by Lightspeed Aviation, recognizes an individual for creative distinction in disseminating information about the helicopter industry. It will be presented March 7, 2022, at HAI HELI-EXPO 2022 in Dallas, TX.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has issued two airworthiness directives (ADs), one for helicopters and one for airplanes, containing measures that will avoid potential effects on aviation safety equipment that could occur as a result of the Jan. 5, 2022, deployment of 5G technologies in the C-band. These ADs will require flight manual limitations that prohibit certain operations requiring radio (radar) altimeter data at locations that will be specified in future Notices to Air Missions (NOTAMs).

Service information and methods of honoring his memory are pending and will be released as soon as they are available.
